Issue:

The project will investigate the effectiveness of courses and training provided to direct care providers to assist them to work safely with individuals who have intellectual and/or developmental disabilities and live in community homes.

Objectives:

The project will:
Strengthen understanding of the relationship between education and training sessions and the direct care provider’s use of the information;
Obtain information regarding the perspective of direct care providers about their use of information from training sessions; and
Assess the factors associated with the most common work related injuries for direct care providers.

Anticipated Results:

The project will provide information regarding how current training for direct care providers could be further developed to increase their safety on the job and to assist them to work as effectively as possibly with individuals who have intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.
