CCOHS announces winners of national ‘Focus on Safety’ Youth Video Contest

The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) has announced the winners of their national Focus on Safety Youth Video Contest.

The video contest challenged high school students across the country to use their creativity to produce an original video that could be used in social media to illustrate to younger workers the importance of working safely on the job.

Entries for the national video contest come from the first place winners of the provincial and territorial contests. This year Contest prizes were awarded to students from Manitoba, Ontario and Saskatchewan:

First place: “Safe Work 2016”
Sarah Mohamed and Rain Cahigas
Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute
Manitoba

Second place: “Breakdown”
Raagavi Ramenthiran, Jaclyn Chiu, Jessica Gu, and Morgan McKay
Markville Secondary School
Ontario

Third place & Fan Favourite*: “Workplace Safety – It’s Your Job”
Shannen Garibay and Maria Himbeault
Clavet Composite School
Saskatchewan

2016 Videos were judged by a panel representing the leadership of national organizations: Gareth Jones, Acting President and CEO of CCOHS; Shirley Hickman, Executive Director of Threads of Life; and Jim Hopkins, President of CSSE.

* In addition, the public were invited to vote online for their Fan Favourite among the entries via CCOHS’ Young Workers Zone website and Facebook page. In total, 69,358 public votes were cast.
