  • WSIB to rebate up to $1.5 billion in surplus funds to Ontario businesses February 16, 2022

    Strong management protects support for people with injuries, maintains a responsible reserve, and rebates surplus to safe Ontario businesses 

    The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) announced today a rebate of surplus funds totaling up to $1.5 billion to eligible safe Ontario businesses. The WSIB’s strong financial and operational management, along with its positive investment returns have led to a surplus in its insurance fund beyond the needed reserve. Recent legislative amendments by the Government of Ontario have made it possible to rebate surplus funds at a time when businesses are coping with the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Sask. WCB welcomes two additional board members February 15, 2022

    The Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) is pleased to welcome two additional part-time board members, Judy Henley and Jack Brodsky, in 2022. They join the WCB’s current full-time board members – chair Gord Dobrowolsky, worker representative Garry Hamblin and employer representative Larry Flowers – to serve the workers and employers of the province.

  • WSCC Lay Charges under the Northwest Territories Safety Act February 11, 2022

    On February 08, 2022, the Workers’ Safety and Compensation Commission filed eleven charges in the Northwest Territories’ Territorial Court under the Safety Act.

    The Northwest Territories Power Corporation is charged with multiple counts alleging violations of the Safety Act and Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, including failure to safely maintain the facility, failure to ensure the health and safety of all persons at the facility and failure to correct unsafe conditions at the plant, as well as other offences.

  • WCB PEI: Employers report high satisfaction with Workers Compensation Board February 8, 2022

    The results of the 2021 Employer Survey are in and the Workers Compensation Board (WCB) is pleased to report that this year’s survey shows high results, scoring 83.4 in its service satisfaction index, down slightly from the previous survey in at 85.0. The index is a measure of employers’ satisfaction with a variety of service dimensions, including effectiveness, fairness and service delivery.

    WorkplaceNL has added new services for injured workers to its suite of online tools. MyWorkplaceNL is a secure, convenient online service where injured workers can submit a report of a workplace injury, view claim and payment data, live chat with a representative, view and print select information, order hearing aid batteries, submit expenses and send in other claim-related documents.

  • Advisory: Safety training certificates extended to February 28 January 31, 2022

    WorkplaceNL is extending the expiry date for safety training certificates issued for Fall Protection, Confined Space Entry, Mine Rescue and Traffic Control Person Level II to February 28, 2022. Given the province’s current public health measures, in-class training courses may not be widely available to workers at this time.
