WorkSafeNB: Day of Mourning

On April 28 each year − the Day of Mourning − we remember those who have lost their lives on the job. Life-altering or fatal workplace injuries and illness are devastating and far reaching, significantly impacting the lives not only of the workers and their families, but also of their co-workers, employers and their communities.

Workplace injuries and illnesses claimed the lives of 14 New Brunswickers last year. Every injury, disease or death serves as a powerful reminder that we all have an important responsibility to ensure healthy and safe workplaces. We must pledge to do better and strive to achieve our vision of making New Brunswick the safest place to work.

WorkSafeNB urges employers and employees to show their support on Thursday, April 28, by observing a moment of silence and, if possible, lowering flags to half-mast. On this Day of Mourning let us honour those 14 New Brunswickers, and all other workers who have lost their lives, and renew our commitment to creating healthy and safe workplaces. We must ensure every worker returns home safely to their loved ones at the end of each day.
