- WorkSafeBC: Amendments to Occupational Health and Safety Regulation in effect August 22, 2022 19 août 2022
New and revised regulatory requirements are now in effect related to refusing unsafe work.
Amendments to the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Regulation came into effect on August 22, 2022. These amendments apply to sections 3.12 – 3.13, Refusal of Unsafe Work. A revised OHS guideline, G3.12, is also available with additional information and support.

As the funded percentage dipped in Q1, long-term approach remains key to sustainability
While market volatility has caused the funded percentage to decrease, WCB Nova Scotia says the system remains on a path toward financial sustainability.
According to the WCB’s Q1 Report to the Community, released today, the overall system funded level dipped just below 100 per cent during the first three months of 2022, after reaching more than 106 per cent at the end of last year.

Effective August 1, 2022, WorkplaceNL adjusted the per kilometer rate paid to injured workers to help cover costs related to their injury. The new rate of 42.94 cents per kilometer is in accordance with government’s automobile reimbursement rates for using private vehicles at work.

With last year’s heat dome, WorkSafeBC accepted 115 claims for heat stress; a 180 percent increase over the previous three-year average.
After a slow start to the summer weather, B.C. is now experiencing higher temperatures throughout the province. As temperatures rise, employers need to be aware of the risks to their workers — both indoor and outdoor — and implement measures to keep their workplaces safe.

WorkplaceNL is reminding the public to take extra precautions when working indoors or outside over the next two days, as temperatures in many parts of the province are expected to reach up to 30 degrees Celsius, with Humidex values up to 36 degrees. These hot and humid conditions increase the risk of heat stress, especially for those who work in commercial kitchens, laundries, bakeries, construction and farming.
