WorkSafeNB announced the recipients of its 2018 Safety Star Awards at its annual Health and Safety Conference in Fredericton. Its Health and Safety Educator Awards recognize teachers or school administrators who put safety first in and out of the classroom.

Awards are provided in anglophone and francophone school sectors.

  • Health and Safety Educator, francophone: Ricky Laboissonnière, École Louis-J.-Robichaud
  • Health and Safety Educator, anglophone: Benjamin Kelly, Caledonia Regional High School

The Health and Safety Champion Award recognizes a person, working at any level within an organization, who is a driver and motivator for workplace health and safety. They go above and beyond to ensure safety for themselves and others. They encourage and inspire colleagues to integrate health and safety in daily activities.

  • Health and Safety Champion Award: Peter Morgan, City of Saint John

WorkSafeNB’s Health and Safety Leader Award recognizes a leader within an organization who has influenced a cultural change in workplace health and safety. They make health and safety a priority in all aspects of the organization and demonstrate their commitment by action and example.

  • Health and Safety Leader Award: Nikol Ralcheva, Fredericton Multicultural Association

“These recipients have made exemplary contributions to health and safety in our region. We thank them for their passion and commitment. We’re fortunate to have Ricky, Ben, Peter and Nikol take such a leading role in New Brunswick,” says Douglas Jones, WorkSafeNB’s president and CEO.

An internal committee selected award recipients from public nominations. The educator award committee includes representation from the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
