Over the past five years, musculoskeletal injuries (MSIs), or soft-tissue injuries, have accounted for 69 per cent of WorkplaceNL lost-time injury claims and $103 million in annual claim costs. Musculoskeletal injuries (MSIs) are painful disorders of the muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, spinal discs and related soft tissues. They may be caused or aggravated by work, but they can be prevented.

Today, WCB Nova Scotia announced employer assessment rates for 2023 on MyAccount, the online portal for employers.
The average employer assessment rate will remain stable at $2.65 per $100 of payroll in 2023.

WorkSafeBC is reminding employers and workers about the dangers from slips, trips, and falls in restaurants, bars, and pubs. Over the last five years in B.C., slips, trips, and falls accounted for approximately 25 percent of all injury claims in restaurants, bars, and pubs.

New and revised regulatory requirements are now in effect related to refusing unsafe work.
Amendments to the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Regulation came into effect on August 22, 2022. These amendments apply to sections 3.12 – 3.13, Refusal of Unsafe Work. A revised OHS guideline, G3.12, is also available with additional information and support.

As the funded percentage dipped in Q1, long-term approach remains key to sustainability
While market volatility has caused the funded percentage to decrease, WCB Nova Scotia says the system remains on a path toward financial sustainability.
According to the WCB’s Q1 Report to the Community, released today, the overall system funded level dipped just below 100 per cent during the first three months of 2022, after reaching more than 106 per cent at the end of last year.
