Did you know nearly 350,000 Canadians are injured at work each year?

The Workplace Injury Summit on Jan. 27, 2026, will explore practical strategies to keep workers healthy, whole and on the job.

Schedule:

1:00 PM – 1:05 PM
Welcome and opening remarks

Speaker: Brandi Cowen, Editor, OHS Canada

1:00 PM – 1:50 PM
Keynote: The long road back: A survivor’s story of workplace injury and recovery

Speakers: Travis Roszell and Lorna Catrambone, Threads of Life

Travis Roszell is the first to admit he wasn’t focused on the safety checklist that fateful day when a preventable safety oversight changed his life forever. Struck in the face by an improperly checked valve, Travis sustained a devastating injury that affected all aspects of his life including his appearance and brain function.

1:50 PM – 2:20 PM
Session #1: Leadership accountability in injury prevention: Moving from compliance to commitment

Speaker: Louise Caicco Tett, CRSP, RN, Health & Safety Professionals Inc.

Most organizations have safety policies in place — but not all of them have the culture to make those policies stick. Leadership attitudes, communication, and accountability directly influence injury prevention outcomes.

In this presentation, Louise will share strategies for transforming safety from a checklist exercise into a leadership mindset. You’ll discover practical ways to model safety expectations, address complacency, and strengthen trust between workers and management.

2:20 PM – 3:00 PM
Session #2: Gamify your ergonomics training

Speaker: Carrie Taylor, Taylor’d Ergonomics

Let’s face it, no one wants to sit through another “force-posture-repetition” lecture. Everyone knows they are supposed to bend their knees and keep their wrists straight. But ergonomics is more than that, and we can help people to truly understand and apply ergonomics principles through hands-on, practical, gamified events.

Gamification involves using elements of game design – like points, levels, badges, leaderboards, and rewards – in non-game settings to make activities more engaging and motivating. Using ergonomic work strategies, such as positioning your feet for optimum pushing strength or adjusting your backrest for better lumbar support, requires knowledge and physical skills. Gamifying a learning experience allows participants to try out a technique, quantify its effects, and then engage with others in a fun setting.

3:00 PM – 3:10 PM
Break

3:10 PM – 3:40 PM
Session #3: Psychological injuries in the age of AI in the modern workplace

Speaker: Jessica Thomson, Pulver Crawford Munroe LLP

Your organization may already be using algorithmic management systems that monitor employee keystrokes, AI-powered surveillance that tracks productivity, automated hiring and termination tools, or other intelligent systems. These technologies promise efficiency, but they also create new liability exposures that traditional risk management frameworks don't address.

3:45 PM – 4:15 PM
Session #4: From first aid to full recovery: Closing gaps in workplace injury response

Speaker: Melissa Manion, Medcor Canada

Explore how a full-coverage injury response model can transform the way your organization manages workplace incidents. We’ll break down the journey from first aid to full recovery, show how immediate onsite triage reduces costs and downtime, and discuss how documentation, follow-up, and data insights strengthen compliance and long-term well-being. You’ll leave with practical steps to close care gaps, improve return-to-work outcomes, and build a safer, more resilient workforce.

4:15 PM – 4:45 PM
