Issue

Several disinfection by-products may be found in the water and air of pools. The exposure of workers to these substances in indoor pools in Quebec was the subject of two investigations funded by the IRSST (2010-0010 and 2013-0074). The first investigation showed that workers can be exposed to significant levels of contamination, while the second monitored the impact of various treatment sectors on contamination from disinfection by-products.

Objectives

The purpose of this research is to develop strategies to control the contamination level of indoor pools from disinfection by-products by identifying, evaluating and exploring mitigation solutions.

Anticipated Results

These strategies will help to direct designers, operators and managers towards best practices in order to protect workers in these environments.
