Yellowknife, NT (May 10, 2024) – A video by Baker Lake, Nunavut student Daniel Tapatai that highlights how to work safely in a power plant has won the 2024 Workers’ Safety and Compensation Commission’s (WSCC) Focus on Safety Youth Video Contest.Tapatai’s video, “Power Plant Safety”, highlights the importance of following site-specific rules for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and to work as a team to identify workplace hazards. “Power Plant Safety” won $1,000, with a matching prize of $1,000 for Skills Canada Nunavut, his sponsoring organization.
“Thank you to everyone who participated in this contest. It’s a great way for youth in Nunavut and the Northwest Territores to not just learn about workplace safety in a fun, creative way, but also to share what they learn with their fellow young workers,” said Rick Hunt, WSCC President & CEO.
This annual contest is sponsored by the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS).
