Eighteen Nova Scotians died at work or because of their work in 2023. That tragic number is a decrease from 24 fatalities in 2022, but still a sobering reminder of the human impact of workplace tragedy, and a reminder that one workplace death is too many.

The Workers Compensation Board of PEI Announces 2024 Rates and Surplus Distribution
The Workers Compensation Board (WCB) of PEI is pleased to announce an 8.8% reduction of its estimated average assessment rate for Islander employers for 2024. This brings the 2024 average rate to $1.25, down from $1.37 in 2023.
It’s important that we collect enough employer premiums in a year to cover the costs of that year’s workplace illnesses and injuries. This ensures today’s employers pay for the illnesses and injuries that occur today, and don’t pass costs onto future generations of employers.

Government announces legislation to include gradual onset stress by September 1, 2024
Today, the Nova Scotia government announced that gradual onset stress will be compensable under the Workers’ Compensation Act, effective September 1, 2024.
With fewer workplace accidents, improved rehabilitation and return-to-work outcomes, and a strong funded position, WorkSafeNB has once again reduced the average annual assessment rate. The organization is pleased to announce that the 2024 rate has been set at $1.18 per $100 of assessable payroll, down from $1.31 in 2023.
