St. John’s, NL – WorkplaceNL announced the recipients of its 2024 Safety Leadership Awards yesterday at the WorkplaceNL Health and Safety Learning Symposium, held at the St. John’s Convention Centre.
The Safety Leadership Awards recognize employers and workers who demonstrate leadership and a visible commitment to health and safety in workplaces in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The recipient of the 2024 WorkplaceNL Safety Leadership Award for Employers is RothLochston Constructors Inc.
RothLochston’s vision is to ensure the safety and well-being of all employees, and they are relentless in their pursuit of providing a safe workplace to employees, vendors and subcontractors, such that they can return home safely to their families, every day. They demonstrate their commitment to a strong health, safety and environmental program by investing in safety programs and ensuring that they are well-resourced and effective. RothLochston’s safety culture is based on a commitment to continuous improvement, ongoing education, open communication and active employee involvement at every level.

The recipient of the 2024 WorkplaceNL Safety Leadership Award for Workers is Kiel Williams.
This award acknowledges workers in the community who practice health and safety in completing work tasks, contribute to making their workplaces safe and positively influence safety culture.
As a Powerline Technician with Newfoundland Power, Kiel has spent the last 15 years going above and beyond to promote the importance of health and safety to his co-workers, contractors and the general public on a daily basis.
Kiel is a driving force for continuously improving safety at Newfoundland Power. He is an integral part of developing safety initiatives with the support of management, unionized employees, external stakeholders, contractors, WorkplaceNL, Service NL OHS Division, and more. This is predominately done through his volunteer work facilitating high voltage rubber glove training and aerial device training to all line operations staff island-wide. Kiel is also the lead traffic control trainer and participates in the Work Methods Advisory Committee for Newfoundland Power.

Candidates for the WorkplaceNL Safety Leadership Awards are submitted by public nominations, and winners are chosen by an internal committee of WorkplaceNL representatives.
