What happens when domestic violence follows victims to work?
The New Brunswick Domestic/Intimate Partner Violence (DIPV) in the Workplace Committee has launched a new 5 Module E-Course entitled It’s Your Business: A Domestic and Intimate Partner Violence (DIPV) Workplace Toolkit.
The course will help all members of a workplace develop practical tools to support employees and co-workers whose safety may be breached.
WorkSafeNB is pleased to partner with this committee to develop the online tool.
This course, made available in both English and French, is designed to help workplaces know their rights and responsibilities with respect to addressing Domestic and Intimate Partner Violence in the workplace and help create a safer and more positive work environment.
A sneak peek of this new toolkit was provided to participants of the Respectful Workplace Week webinar series hosted by UNB’s Muriel McQueen Fergusson Centre in September and has now launched to the public.
This project is the result of recommendations by the Chief Coroner that were part of the review of the Domestic Violence Death Committee in 2020.
Based on the recommendations, WorkSafeNB, along with the Minister responsible for Women’s Equality, Minister of Finance and Treasury Board, and Minster of Post-secondary Education, Training, and Labour, supported the DIPV Workplace Committee of New Brunswick in developing e-learning modules on domestic intimate partner violence (DIPV) for workplaces so that they are accessible to all employers.
This new e-course is a complimentary resource to the New Brunswick Domestic/Intimate Partner Violence (DIPV) in the Workplace Committee’s online toolkit developed in 2020.
This project is one of several WorkSafeNB has worked to develop with our partners this past year on Domestic and Intimate Partner Violence resources for employers. Earlier this summer WorkSafeNB helped launch the Breaking Workplace Silence toolkit for employers to better understand the impact of domestic violence in a remote work context and shed light on how employers can better support their employees to prevent or help someone when signs are identified.
