Minister Davis Announces Reappointment of Chief Executive Officer at WorkplaceNL

Today, the Honourable Bernard Davis, Minister Responsible for WorkplaceNL, announced that Dennis Hogan has been reappointed as Chief Executive Officer of WorkplaceNL.

Mr. Hogan has been reappointed for a five-year term and was originally appointed in October 2016 following the merit-based appointment process by the Independent Appointments Commission.

WorkplaceNL is governed by a Board of Directors that reports to the provincial government through the Minister Responsible for WorkplaceNL and their appointment is recommended through the merit-based process of the Independent Appointment Commission.

BACKGROUNDER

Biographical Information for Dennis Hogan
Prior to his appointment to WorkplaceNL, Dennis Hogan served in several executive roles with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, including as Assistant Deputy Minister (Workforce Development and Immigration) and Assistant Deputy Minister (Labour Market Recruitment – Major Projects) with the Department of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour. Previously, he served as Assistant Secretary to Cabinet (Economic Policy) with the Executive Council, and Assistant Deputy Minister (Innovation, Research and Technology) and Chief Innovation Officer with the Department of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development.

Earlier in his career, he was the founding Executive Director of Oceans Advance, Newfoundland and Labrador’s ocean technology cluster initiative, and founding CEO of the Newfoundland and Labrador Construction Safety Association.

Mr. Hogan currently serves as First Vice Chair, Association of Workers’ Compensation Boards of Canada, and serves on the Advisory Board, Future Skills Centre, and the Advisory Council, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, Memorial University. He has previously served on the Board of Directors of the Research and Development Corporation of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Genesis Centre of Memorial University. He is a former member of the Atlantic Advisory Board, National Science, Engineering and Research Council of Canada, and the Conference Board of Canada’s Leaders’ Panel on Innovation-based Commerce.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Economics and Business) from Memorial University and a Master of Business Administration from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where he was a Sloan Fellow. While attending MIT, he was also a graduate cross-registrant in leadership, strategy and communications at Harvard Business School and the Kennedy School of Government.
