Saskatchewan WCB selected a 2018 Top Employer!

The Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board has been selected as one of Saskatchewan’s 2018 Top Employers, an annual competition organized by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers recognizing employers that lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work.

“Our commitment to customers and employees is rooted in Mission: Zero – zero injuries, zero fatalities, zero suffering,” says Stuart Cunningham, Saskatchewan WCB’s Vice-President of Human Resources and Communications. “Our ultimate goal is to provide a quality employee experience to drive a service that places the customers at the centre of everything we do.”

“We’re not willing to settle when it comes to serving our customers, and opportunities for our employees to grow is a crucial factor,” Stuart continues. “Through our daily ‘huddle’ meetings, our frontline staff share their unique insights into whether our processes are providing the best outcomes for our customers.”

Christina Zinger, Saskatchewan WCB Registration and Statistics Coding Supervisor says her job is satisfying because she’s helping someone affected by a work injury. And as a supervisor, she’s learned “leading” people at the WCB is about working with them.

“Ten years ago, we would have seen an environment where employees were told how to do the work,” she says. “Now employees are taking the lead, improving the service we provide.”

Saskatchewan’s Top Employers are evaluated using the eight criteria used for national competition: 1) physical workplace; 2) work atmosphere & social; 3) health, financial & family benefits; 4) vacation & time off; 5) employee communications; 6) performance management; 7) training & skills development; and 8) community involvement.

Employers are compared to similar organizations to determine which offers the most progressive and forward-thinking programs. Some of the reasons why Saskatchewan WCB was selected include:

  • employees are supported with 3 weeks of paid vacation, and previous work experience is considered when setting individual vacation entitlements,
  • employees are encouraged to adopt healthy lifestyles through a dedicated rewards program, and to organize a variety of initiatives to support health and wellness, and,
  • the long-term development of employees is invested in with tuition subsidies for educational courses, career planning services, and a variety of in-house and online training programs, and,
  • Saskatchewan WCB reaches out to the next generation of employees through paid internships.

Saskatchewan’s 2018 Top Employers winners were announced on January 24, in a special magazine published by the Regina Leader-Post and Saskatoon Star Phoenix.

Congratulations Saskatchewan WCB!
