HALIFAX, NS – WCB Nova Scotia has hit another milestone in its preparations to support gradual onset psychological injury coverage starting on September 1st.
WCB has secured four new expert service providers to gather information and mediate claims for this new type of compensable injury. Mobile Resource Group, MC Advisory Group, Latitude, and Homewood Health will lead evidence-based investigations and provide trauma-informed mediation services.
“Our new service model for gradual onset psychological injury claims will connect workers and employers to the supports they need, as quickly as possible,” says Shelly Dauphinee, WCB’s Chief Engagement Officer. “Some complex claims may require additional resources, so having these service providers on hand means workers and employers can expect enhanced claim support.”
WCB anticipates that most GPI claims will be handled by its team of experienced Eligibility Specialists. But depending on the circumstances of the injury, some claims that involve more serious, systemic issues may require additional evidence to determine eligibility.
The new agreements also include impartial mediation services that will facilitate a voluntary, confidential process to help disputing parties arrive at a resolution.
This is another significant part of how the WCB is protecting the workforce, guided by our strategic plan. Bringing on expert service providers to help along the way will strengthen our decision-making process, and enable improved return-to-work outcomes.
