Yellowknife Student Wins Territorial Safety Video Contest

Yellowknife, NT (May 4, 2023) – A video by Sir John Franklin High School student Kai Walden that encourages youth to think about their rights as workers has won the territorial 2023 Workers’ Safety and Compensation Commission’s (WSCC) Focus on Safety Youth Video Contest.
Walden’s video, “Pest Z”, demonstrates just how important it is for a worker to know what hazards exist in their workplace. “Pest Z” won $1,000 with a matching prize of $1,000 for Sir John Franklin Highschool.

“I want to thank everyone who participated in this year’s youth video contest. This contest is a creative way for youth in Nunavut and the Northwest Territores to not just spread the important message of staying safe at work, but can be foundational for a life-long understanding of their rights as workers,” said Debbie Molloy, WSCC President & CEO.

This annual contest is sponsored by the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS).
