Ces lésions plus couramment appelées « blessures musculo-squelettiques », peuvent toucher les muscles, les nerfs, les tendons, les articulations, le cartilage et les disques vertébraux sous forme, notamment, d’entorses, de foulures et d’inflammations. Ces blessures peuvent être très douloureuses et débilitantes, en plus d’être parfois ressenties longtemps.

For more than two years in 2020, through 2021 and through the first six months of 2022, the Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) provided cost relief for employers with accepted COVID-19 claims. The WCB will conclude providing COVID-19 cost relief for employers with accepted COVID-19 workplace injuries that occur on or after July 1, 2022. Accepted COVID-19 workplace injuries that occur prior to July 1, 2022 are still eligible for cost relief.

As summer approaches, WorkSafeBC is reminding young workers about their rights — and employers about their responsibilities
As large numbers of young people begin entering the workforce for summer jobs, WorkSafeBC cautions that young and new workers are vulnerable to injury at work.
In 2021, WorkSafeBC accepted 7,125 claims related to injuries from young workers. Injuries were most likely to occur in service-sector jobs (2,801 claims), followed by retail and wholesale (1,335 claims), and construction (1,258 claims). Financement du régime québécois de santé et de sécurité du travail pour 2023
Le conseil d’administration de la Commission des normes, de l’équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CNESST) a approuvé le taux moyen de cotisation du Fonds de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (FSST) pour l’année 2023. Il a été fixé à 1,50 $ du 100 $ de masse salariale, en baisse de 0,17 $ par rapport à 2022. Cela représentera une économie de l’ordre de 335 millions de dollars pour les entreprises du Québec.

Former Saskatchewan Roughrider Dan Comiskey knows what it’s like to lose a loved one while working on the job. In 2001, Comiskey’s brother was electrocuted and killed while working as an electrical lineman because he was wearing the wrong gloves. Comiskey’s family also experienced a workplace tragedy when his father-in-law was hit on the head by a piece of rock while on his first day on the job at a mine in the Northwest Territories. Now a professional safety speaker, Comiskey uses his world of sports and family to spread the message of creating habits to keep all workers safe at work.

À compter du 14 mai 2022, le port du masque de qualité ne sera plus obligatoire, mis à part dans les transports et les milieux de soins. Le port du masque demeure bien sûr permis et, par précaution, il reste recommandé, par exemple lors d’interactions avec des personnes à risque ou pour les tâches nécessitant un rassemblement de personnes dans un espace restreint.

The first week of May is set aside to focus on workplace health and safety, and renew our commitment. You’ll see, from the statistics released this year, that while we have made progress, we still have work to do.
Together, we challenge Nova Scotians to make workplace health a priority — this past week, and always.

The Workers Compensation Board of P.E.I. is pleased to announce that Kiera Sharpley, a grade 10 student from Charlottetown Rural, has claimed second place in the national Focus on Safety Youth Video Contest.
The video contest challenged youth across the country to use their creativity to produce an original video that could be used in social media to illustrate to younger workers the importance of health and safety at work.

According to the Leger poll* 90% of respondents said they were aware of their right to refuse unsafe work. When asked what they would do if they had a safety concern at work, 63% said they would raise the concern with management.

Diplômée de la Faculté de droit de l’Université Laval et membre du Barreau du Québec depuis 1975, Mme Otis s’est spécialisée en droit du travail et en droit administratif jusqu’à son ascension à la magistrature. En 1983, elle a orienté sa pratique vers le droit public et le droit constitutionnel, à la suite de l’entrée en vigueur de la Charte canadienne des droits et des libertés. Parallèlement, elle a enseigné à la Faculté de droit de l’Université Laval, de 1984 à 1987, et à l’École du Barreau du Québec pendant près de 10 ans.

The Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) remained fully funded in 2021 with the ability to cover the future costs of all claims in the system. The WCB’s 2021 annual report was tabled in the provincial legislature today.

- 27 rate codes (55 per cent of rate codes with an injury rate) had a lower Total injury rate in 2021 than in 2020
The Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) released its injury statistics today, announcing that workplace injury rates increased in 2021. The workplace Total injury rate for 2021 was 4.56 per 100 workers, a two per cent increase from 2020. However, from 2009 to 2021, the WCB’s Total injury rate has decreased by 51.1 per cent.

WCB Nova Scotia is committed to doing our part to support workers and employers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Grounded in defining the pandemic as a disaster, under Section 115 of the Workers’ Compensation Act, early claim costs arising from COVID-19 were spread over the general collective liability. There have been relatively few claims for COVID-19 in Nova Scotia, but with this approach, any rate impact was absorbed by the employer base as a whole.

Richmond, B.C. — Last year in B.C., WorkSafeBC received more than 3,400 enquiries related to bullying and harassment and responded to 931 specific complaints of bullying and harassment in the workplace.
Of these enquiries, 17 percent came from the health care sector; 10 percent from hospitality; 8 percent from construction; and 8 percent from the retail industry.

The provincial government recently introduced Bill 5 – 2022: Workers Compensation Amendment Act, 2022, which proposes new protections to help keep workers safe from the danger of asbestos.
The proposed amendments include the establishment of requirements that asbestos abatement contractors must be licensed to operate in British Columbia, and that workers and employers who perform this work must complete mandatory safety training and certification.

Richmond, B.C. — WorkSafeBC is reminding employers and workers of the risks associated with falls at work.
WorkSafeBC cautions that nearly every worksite has the potential for a fall, whether it’s from a roof, short ladder, medium-sized truck or a tall scaffold. Falls usually result from a combination of hazards, including working at heights without fall protection; not following safe-work procedures; slippery surfaces; and overexertion.

The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) announced today a rebate of surplus funds totaling up to $1.5 billion to eligible safe Ontario businesses. The WSIB’s strong financial and operational management, along with its positive investment returns have led to a surplus in its insurance fund beyond the needed reserve. Recent legislative amendments by the Government of Ontario have made it possible to rebate surplus funds at a time when businesses are coping with the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The results of the 2021 Employer Survey are in and the Workers Compensation Board (WCB) is pleased to report that this year’s survey shows high results, scoring 83.4 in its service satisfaction index, down slightly from the previous survey in at 85.0. The index is a measure of employers’ satisfaction with a variety of service dimensions, including effectiveness, fairness and service delivery.

The Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) discontinues COVID-19 cost relief, effective Jan. 1, 2022.
The Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) provided COVID-19 cost relief for employers with accepted COVID-19 claims in 2020 and 2021. This cost relief will conclude for accepted COVID-19 workplace injuries that occur on or after Jan. 1, 2022. Accepted COVID-19 workplace injuries that occur on or prior to Dec. 31, 2021 will still be eligible for cost relief, which means the WCB will cover claim costs.

The Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) has approved the 2022 average employer premium rate of $1.23 per hundred dollars of payroll. This is the first increase to the average premium rate since 2004. The 2021 rate was $1.17. Despite this increase, the province’s premium rates remain among the lowest in Canada.

The Workers’ Safety and Compensation Commission (WSCC) is seeking public input on a proposal to change how pension benefits are calculated for workplace injuries.
Under the present system, workers receive lifetime pension benefits if they have a workplace injury that results in a lasting loss of function after medical treatment or rehabilitation efforts are complete. This is known as a permanent medical impairment. The amount each individual receives is calculated soley based on the percentage of impairment they experience as a result of the injury and what they were earning at the time the injury happened.

Effective January 1, 2022, WorkplaceNL will hold the average assessment rate paid by employers at $1.69 per $100 of payroll, including a temporary $0.21 average discount.
Seventy-three percent of employers will have no change or a lower annual assessment rate and 27 per cent of employers will have a higher rate in 2022. This compares to 43 per cent having no change or a lower rate and 57 per cent having a higher rate in 2021.

Durant son assemblée générale annuelle, la Commission de la sécurité professionnelle et de l’assurance contre les accidents du travail (WSIB) a annoncé aujourd’hui une réduction de 5,1 % du taux de prime moyen des entreprises de l’Ontario pour 2022, ce taux passant de 1,37 $ à 1,30 $. Cette annonce fait suite à la décision par la WSIB de maintenir les taux de prime 2021 au même niveau que l’année précédente dans le but de venir en aide aux entreprises pendant la pandémie de COVID-19.
« Notre solide rendement financier nous permet de réduire la pression que les entreprises de l’Ontario subissent durant cette période difficile tout en continuant à aider les gens à se rétablir et à retourner au travail », a déclaré Elizabeth Witmer, présidente du conseil de la WSIB. « C’est la cinquième fois au cours des six dernières années que nous avons été en mesure de réduire le taux de prime moyen, confirmant ainsi que l’Ontario est l’un des territoires nord-américains où des prestations parmi les plus généreuses sont versées à un coût concurrentiel. »

With extreme temperatures in many parts of British Columbia, WorkSafeBC is advising employers to consider closing down their workplaces if workers cannot be protected from the risk of heat stress.
“All workers are potentially at risk,” said Al Johnson, Head of Prevention Services at WorkSafeBC. “With the heat wave across B.C., we are warning employers and workers about the risk of developing heat stress.
